The Grounds of Alexandria

Grounds of Alexandria

The Grounds of Alexandria

The iconic Grounds of Alexandria is an iconic cafe, restaurant, bar, garden, bakery & patisserie, coffee roastery, animal farm, florist and more.

Grounds of Alexandria

The Grounds opened in April 2012 on the site of a former pie factory in the industrial area of Alexandria. The concept for the Grounds, by the entrepreneurial duo Ramzey Choker and Jack Hanna, was to create a thriving urban sanctuary to bring people together.

Grounds of Alexandria

Since its opening The Grounds of Alexandria has grown and changed to include two dine-in venues: The Cafe, The Potting Shed, an outdoor takeaway dining area, multiple event spaces, a florist, kids play area and animal petting area.

Grounds of Alexandria

The Grounds is extremely popular and is most busy Friday through to Sunday. There is parking on site, however it can be hard to find a spot on these popular days.

Grounds of Alexandria

I highly recommend booking a table in advance to guarantee a spot, or grabbing takeaway and eating it outdoors.

Grounds of Alexandria

The Grounds of Alexandria hosts fantastic seasonal events such as Easter brunch and Mother’s Day high teas and themed installations – the current one at writing being The Secret Garden, which you can learn more about here.

Grounds of Alexandria

The Grounds is stroller and wheelchair-friendly, kid-friendly and even dog-friendly. Dogs can dine in The Cafe but must have an outdoor table and must not sit on the chairs.

acre Artarmon: Bar, Cafe & Bakery

acre Artarmon

Enjoy farm-inspired food grown on-site at acre Artarmon. This open-air urban oasis features indoor and outdoor seating, picnic style areas, kids’ play area and chicken coop.

Acre Artarmon

We are frequent visitors to acre at Camperdown Commons, so were extremely keen to check out the new acre in the family, located at the HomeHQ Artarmon.

acre Artarmon is a cafe, restaurant, bar and bakery set within sprawling indoor and outdoor gardens that produce the food that goes straight into kitchen to produce the meals.

Acre Artarmon

Featuring local and exotic fruit trees, a kitchen garden, vertical plantings & hydroponic growing systems and planted pergolas, acre Artarmon is a fascinating place to dine and discover, where you can browse the gardens where your food was grown. You know your meal is going to be made with super fresh produce when you can see it growing on the vines!

Acre Artarmon

There are several dining options at acre Artarmon. There is a cafe bakery with freshly baked items that can be quickly consumed or taken to go, such as pies, sandwiches, quiche and delicious croissants.

Acre Artarmon Acre Artarmon

The restaurant extends inside and out onto the terrace, with a breakfast menu offered until 11:30am and a dedicated lunch menu. The breakfast menu features traditional brekkie staples like eggs as well as dishes that hero the fresh plants such as tomatoes and avocado.

The lunch menu offers delicious homemade pizzas and an eclectic menu with burgers, salads and pasta. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan dishes on both menus and the kids’ menu has the usual favourites, served up in a generous portion. Adults might want to try a garden-inspired cocktail.

Acre Artarmon Acre Artarmon

We ordered the Kids Margarita Pizza ($10) and Smoked Beetroot, Roasted Pumpkin Salad with Ricotta ($22). Kids also get a cute colouring in sheet if they like.

Acre Artarmon

Outside, there are picnic style seating areas, a kids’ playground and chicken coop.

Bodhi Restaurant Bar: Vegan Yum Cha Sydney

Bodhi Restaurant Bar: Vegan Yum Cha Sydney

Bodhi Restaurant Bar: Vegan Yum Cha Sydney

Enjoy vegan yum cha in the heart of Sydney at Bodhi Restaurant Bar. Located under St Mary’s Cathedral, diners can relax under fig trees while being served bright, fresh yum cha dishes.

Bodhi Restaurant Sydney

Bodhi is a Sydney dining institution. Perfectly situated in the centre of the CBD, overlooking Cook + Phillip Park, the restaurant and bar features a large outdoor dining area as well as inside seating.

Bodhi Restaurant Sydney

The restaurant opened in 1988 as one of the first vegetarian/vegan restaurants in Sydney, and has been a family-owned and operated business for three generations. Bodhi today is the longest running and largest vegan establishment in Australia.

Bodhi has a strong emphasis on fresh ingredients, with a company ethos of “do no harm”, and “minimize your impact”. Their chefs follow aBuddhist vegan cooking philosophy, using no garlic, onion, chives, scallions and leek in their dishes. As a result, the food is quite subtle in flavour.

Bodhi Restaurant Sydney

Bodhi also has a large variety of dishes catering to special dietary needs such as gluten or nut allergies.

The vegan yum cha menu includes dumplings (my fave are the sweet Japanese pumpkin dumplings), fresh items such as blanched fresh kalian vegetables and Vietnamese rice paper salad wraps, steamed dishes, including the delicious green vegetable bread buns, oven-baked/fried/sauteed dishes (the vegetable curry puff is a must-try) and sweets. We loved the adorable custard lava buns shaped like pigs.

Bodhi Restaurant Sydney

Inside the dumplings and buns you’ll find a mix of vegetables, tofu and mock meats. The menu is extremely wide and varied, so even the pickiest of eaters will be able to find something that they like.

Bodhi Restaurant Sydney

We are frequent visitors to Bodhi and always find the staff to be extremely knowledgable about ingredients and accomodating.

Bodhi Restaurant Sydney

It’s a great place to take kids to try some new dishes, too. With the open-air dining area and wide tables with plenty of space in between, it’s an easy place to bring the family and relax.

There is parking under St Mary’s Cathedral nearby, or in the Domain car park. Both have reasonable weekend rates. Read more about where to find cheap parking in Sydney.

The Paper Mill Food: Dining Precincts in Liverpool, Sydney

The Paper Mill Food: Dining Precincts in Liverpool, Sydney

Take your pick of delicious eating establishments in the Paper Mill Food precinct, located on the banks of the Georges River in South-West Sydney.

The Paper Mill was, as its name implies, originally used as a paper mill during the late 1800s, and at the time was Australia’s largest paper mill. It was alter used as a woollen mill until 1975, and has been brought back to life as a dining precinct.

Inside the Paper Mill are four restaurants, and plenty of seating.

Shepherd’s Lane

This cafe, bakery and dessert bar is the place to head for breakfast, brunch and lunch, plus serves up sweet treats later on in the day.

Shepherd’s Lane Has a wide range of pastries on offer, with tempting croissants, muffins, doughnuts and cakes baked on site daily. They also have artisan gelato and desserts available all day.

The signature breakfast and brunch dishes at Shepherd’s Lane include waffles (there is a large waffle and pancake menu), eggs and wood-fired manoush. We dined at Shepherd’s Lane and could not fault the excellent food and coffee.

Firepit

The Paper Mill’s a la carte dining option is perfect for a special family gathering. Firepit serves meat and fresh market seafood chargrilled or cooked in a wood-fire oven. The Firepit is open daily for lunch and dinner.

Georgie’s

Enjoy wood-fired pizza, Neapolitan-style, in a casual setting at this pizzeria and bar. Georgie’s is located near the kids’ indoor play area, making it the perfect family option. Open daily for lunch and dinner.

Charcoal Joe’s

Try Lebanese charcoal chicken cooked on a custom charcoal grill, with a spread of colourful and flavourful mezze, salads, pickles, dips and chips.

Kids’ Play Area

There is a cute little play area for kids that includes little tables, games and cubbies.

The Paper Mill is located between Liverpool and Casula, right near the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and Casula Parklands Adventure Playground. They offer a valet parking service, however we found parking on the street nearby. You can also catch the train to Casula or Liverpool and take the 10 minute walk there.

The Paper Mill Food is open between 7am – 11pm weekdays, and 7:30am-11pm on weekends. Food is available all day, the kitchens close at 10:30 every night.

Restaurant Reviews: The Boatshed La Perouse, Sydney

The Boatshed, La Perouse, Sydney

The Boatshed La Perouse

Enjoy casual, modern dining with a focus on fresh seafood at The Boatshed La Perouse. This waterfront restaurant is an extremely family-friendly place to dine – with a bonus killer view!

The Boat Shed, La Perouse, Sydney

On weekends a booking would be advisable, as the restaurant is in a very attractive spot, perched over Frenchmans Beach, with the stunning ocean as a backdrop. There is a large deck to choose a table on, with a lovely sea breeze but also full shade coverage.

The Boat Shed, La Perouse, Sydney

The Boadshed La Perouse is open for breakfast and lunch, with the menu crossing over at 11:30am daily.

The Boat Shed, La Perouse, Sydney

I arrived to try the breakfast menu and ordered the Haloumi Stack (with roasted truss tomatoes, smashed avocado, grilled haloumi and sourdough, $18.5).

Boatshed La Perouse

The breakfast menu has a lot of options, including some for kids (the Kids Pancakes, $12, Eggs Your Way, $12). There are also vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.

The lunch menu is quite seafood heavy, with only one vegan option, one vegetarian main, one vegetarian entree and a few sides salads.

Boatshed La Perouse

There is a nourishing salad bowl that is extremely green and healthy, and delicious chips to balance that out.

Boatshed La Perouse

Kids options on the lunch menu are all meat-heavy too: Fish and Chips, Calamari and Chips and Chicken Nuggets and Chips, all $12 each. The kids’ pancakes are amazing.

Boatshed La Perouse

Order at the bar and food will be brought to your table. There are plenty of baked goods for sale there, too.

The Boat Shed, La Perouse, Sydney

We found the food was delivered quite quickly and was hot and fresh.

Bathrooms are located upstairs, with the exception of the family and disabled bathroom on the restaurant level. The family and disabled bathroom has a change table.

Boatshed La Perouse

There is easy, single level entrance to and from the Boatshed La Perouse, making it a great choice for strollers, and plenty of high chairs available.

Frenchmans Beach, La Perouse, Sydney

The Boatshed La Perouse sits above Frenchmans Beach, which is an extremely flat, sheltered beach, perfect for families. There is a new, fenced playground next to the restaurant and beach.

Kitchen Table at Aria

A quick post about a dinner at Aria. It was a work dinner as a prize my team won, and we were seated at the amazing kitchen table, so we were able to watch the chefs making our food. Absolutely fantastic night. Look at the food!
