Restaurant Review: The Galley at Sydney Boathouse

The Galley at Sydney Boathouse

Kick back in the sun and enjoy the waterfront views while dining on super delish food at the Galley at Sydney Boathouse. The rustic, beachy vibes are reminiscent of seaside holiday while the food is fresh, colourful and seriously tasty.

The Galley at Sydney Boathouse

The Galley at Sydney Boathouse has stunning harbour views, while nestled into a little nook near the White Bay Cruise Terminal in Rozelle. It’s a quiet spot, ideal for whiling the morning away with a solid meal and big iced coffee.

Kids and dogs are both welcome at The Galley. Dogs have to stay outside but it’s good to know you can bring your furry friend and grab a pretty harbourside spot to dine with them.

Kids, however, can step inside with their parents and head straight for the toy area that offers a selection of entertainment options for the tiny diners who visit – so very thoughtful and much appreciated. There are also kids’ offerings on both the brekkie and lunch menus.

The Galley at Sydney Boathouse

Brekkie is served 7-11:30am, lunch 11:30am-3pm. We arrived for lunch and were delighted to see how many vegetarian options were on the menu, and also a veggie option for kids.

We highly enjoyed the Avocado and Haloumi Tortilla (with pesto, rocket, roast tomato, spinach, $18) plus Beer Battered Chips ($3), Black Sausage (with spinach, scrambled egg, pomegranate, dill yoghurt, roast tomato, herbs, sourdough, $22), kid’s Corn Omelette (with tomato sauce, $10) and Iced Coffee ($6).

We found the food absolutely delicious, the staff friendly and the atmosphere relaxing. It was a perfect dining experience and we will be returning to try the brekkie menu next.

The Best Pastries In Town; Adriano Zumbo Cafe, Rozelle, Sydney

#AdrianoZumbo #Cafe #Rozelle #Sydney via brunchwithmybaby.com

If it’s possible you haven’t heard of Adriano Zumbo until now, you’ve been missing out on the best pastry chef in Sydney’s amazingly creative desserts and macarons that the rest of Sydney have been raving about (and lining up for!) for years.

Zumbo is a country boy from Coonamble. He opened his first shop in Balmain in 2007, where the sugared-up locals couldn’t get enough of his unique pastries.

My own love affair with Zumbo’s pastries began many many years ago, back when the Zumbo cafe was on Darling street. It was teeny tiny and filled with desserts beyond my imagination. I was such a fan that Alec hired the cafe for my 30th birthday and treated all of my friends to a decedent afternoon tea. Fastforward past the MasterChef croquembouche season that made Zumbo a household name, and now he’s is so well known that you’d be hard pressed to go to any of Zumbo’s cafes or bakeries and not have to queue for a tasty morsel.

I absolutely love The Lab, the Zumbo cafe on Terry street in Rozelle. It has a bit of seating in the back thanks to some benches and stools, and sells lots savories like delectable quiches, pies, sausages rolls and sourdough loaves as well as the tarts, bar cakes, pastries and macarons that Zumbo is famous for. The cafe doesn’t have the full range of desserts (head to the Darling st Balmain bakery for that), but I prefer it so we can sit down, order a coffee and a babyccino, and eat the food the way Zumbo intended — which is very quickly after it was created.

There is in fact a sign in the cafe/bakery warning customers to eat their goodies pretty quickly. They don’t stand up to temperature changes and are very delicate, so it’s not uncommon to get your prized pastry home and open it to find it’s been smushed thanks to carless transportation.

While you’re lining up or sitting and eating, be sure to peer through the large viewing window and watch the chefs whip up the delicious creations which are then delivered to the Zumbo stores daily.

Finger bun is my favourite macaron (or “Zumbaron”!). It actually tastes like the best finger bun you’ve ever eaten.

Lucky us, we found the large back table free for our party of four adults, two toddlers and one baby. Plenty of room for the strollers to park right up at the table, as well as lots of space for our wriggly toddler to run around the tree while we waited for our meals to arrive.

To start with, I ordered the Dandelion Tea ($4), which was delicious. Our table ordered a wide variety of meals: a side of Ancient Grains ($6), Super B.L.A.T (Feather & Bone Smoked Bacon, Leaves, Avocado, Tomato, Aioli, Herbs & Hemp Seeds, $18. Add a Fried Organic Egg $3), Bread/Toast & Butter, $6, Spiced Kicharis (Seasonally Spiced Indian Rice & Lentils with Salad, Tamarind Chutney & Minted Yoghurt, $14), and the Avocado, Tomato (Spelt Sourdough, Hemp, Oregano, Basil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, &16. The food is fresh, bursting with flavour, and feels good on the stomach several hours later. No heavy after-effects after eating such wholesome food. Perfectly poached eggs, creamy avocado, fragrant tomatoes and crusty fresh bread. Absolutely delicious. The kids munched on toast and banana bread (that I was too slow to photograph) and happily danced around the courtyard while the adults enjoyed the peaceful ambiance.

Rosebud Cafe: Kid-Friendly Cafes Rozelle, Sydney

#Rosebuds Cafe; #kidfriendly #Rozelle #Sydney via brunchwithmybaby.com

Inner west suburb Rozelle is literally jam packed with cute little cafes, all vying for your attention. We picked Rosebud at the suggestion of our friends whom we were dining with that day. Arriving at prime lunch time, we had no problem getting a table for four adults, two toddlers and one baby, plus two strollers. Result!

The friendly staff gave the toddlers a few toys on loan to play with (THANK YOU!) while they waited for their kids smoothies ($3.50). Our food was all spot on — Shoestring Fries ($5.50), Omelette with Spinach, Feta, Mushroom ($16), Free Range Eggs (poached, with sourdough, $9), with Haloumi, Spinach and Tomatoes ($4 each side, or 3 sides for $10), Tuna Nicoise Salad ($16).
