The Sweet Little Cafe: Crepes and Coffee, Brooklyn, New York

Sweet Little Cafe

The Sweet Little Cafe recently re-opened with new management. It’s a cute little cafe that serves crepes, sandwiches, pastries and coffee. While the food is good, it’s sadly not baby-friendly in the least. Housed in a very small space, there are few tables, definitely no room for strollers, and the wait on the crepes has been an hour each of the two times that we have dropped by. Stop by with older kids only!

Public: Kid-Friendly Restaurants, SoHo, New York

Hipster babies rejoice – they, too, can brunch in trendy SoHo at Public. While not a hugely family-friendly venue, they do have high chairs and are very accommodating to babies. Great food (lamingtons!) and atmosphere – a perfect choice for brunch with friends who aren’t into the regular family-restaurant scene. No reservations for brunch, so arrive when they open to be seated first.

Colonie: Kid-Friendly Restaurants, Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn

Colonie is a known date-night favourite. On the weekends however, it’s a brunch mecca for families. While the restaurant doesn’t feature a lot of baby-friendly amenities, it makes up for it with truly fine food and friendly staff who welcome kids of all ages. No reservations for brunch. Ted & Honey: Kid-Friendly Cafes, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn

This little neighbourhood cafe is frequented by local families for a very good reason – despite having no room for strollers, it’s right next door to Cobble Hill Park. Their breakfast and lunch sandwiches are the perfect thing to chow down on while sitting in the pretty park with your offspring. The breakfast sandwiches are delicious – large, full of egg, fresh tomato and cheese. Just the thing to kickstart your day.

On cold days, snuggle up inside with your little one on your lap and let them play with some of the books and toys that are in the cafe just for this purpose, while you indulge in a grilled cheese and tomato soup.

Bubby's Tribeca

You don’t get more family friendly than the Bubby’s restaurants. The TriBeCa branch is a bit more upmarket than its Brooklyn sibling, but also has less space. Tables are a bit crowded together, making for a squished dining experience. A bright, rowdy atmosphere makes it fab for families. Take the kids to the nearby Hudson River Greenway afterwards to run around.

Bubby’s Brooklyn

——-CLOSED——————————————————————————————

You don’t get more family friendly than the Bubby’s restaurants. This Brooklyn branch is particularly great for kids. Lots of space, room for older kids to stretch their legs if they get bored and a photobooth to capture some silly family shots before you leave. The food is solid, standard fare. Afterwards, head to the park and playground across the road.

Hugs!

Bar Tabac is a French bistro in Cobble Hill. Plenty of outdoor tables you can park a stroller at as well as indoor tables. Kids’ meals run large – the grilled cheese sandwich we were served was adult-sized. This is a brunch fave for locals – their omelettes are devine.

Maialino at Gramercy Park Hotel

Elegant dining  – with kids? Absolutely possible at Maialino; kids and babies are made to feel very welcome. Despite not having a kids’ menu, the staff offered several suggestions for meals they could make for the 11-month-old babies we had dining with us. We chose the pasta with a butter sauce – and no-one even batted an eye at the piles of pasta thrown on the floor. Sorry about that, Maialino – next time perhaps spaghetti noodles are not the best idea for babies with minimal hand-eye coordination.

Landmarc (at the Time Warner Center)

Landmarc at Time Warner Center - kid-friendly restaurants, New York
Cheese!

For Alec’s first Father’s Day, we wanted to try a restaurant near Central Park. Landmarc at the Time Warner Center is right on the edge of Central Park, at Columbus Circle, so it’s the perfect location if you want to dine and then stroll or play.

Landmarc at Time Warner Center - kid-friendly restaurants, New York
With Dad and the spoon.

Landmarc features standard breakfast and brunch food, like omelettes, pancakes and egg dishes. I found them to be a bit over priced (a basic omelette starts at $18), you do get to eat lunch with a killer view of the park and Columbus Circle.

A real family restaurant, there are always lots of kids dining at Landmarc – which will be obvious as soon as you arrive and see all of the strollers parked outside. Be sure to reserve your table in advance via Open Table.

Last bite: Solid food, great view, and you’re right on Central Park!
