We added the adorable @alicehavanese to our family We added the adorable @alicehavanese to our family a few weeks ago and now she’s had her shots we are loving taking her out exploring around Sydney. Photo taken at the extremely pooch-friendly Clifton Gardens. It’s been so much fun having a puppy in the house - it’s been such a joyful time for all of us. Dog-friendly explorations coming (at some point 😅) to the blog! #sydneydogs #sydneywithdogs
The tiny dancer and I had a great morning at @seal The tiny dancer and I had a great morning at @sealifesydneyaquarium today test driving our new @fitbitanz. I’ve had a Fitbit for years and love the motivation it gives me to incorporate exercise into my day and do those few extra steps. We had a crack at the Fitbit challenge at @sealifesydneyaquarium, filming ourselves doing aquatic-themed fitness videos (Fitbit are giving away a kids’ Fitbit Ace 3 every day until April 18!). Want to win one for your kid? Fitbit and SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium have given me one Fitbit Ace 3 to giveaway - simply like this post, follow @adventure.baby and comment below in 25 words or less what your favorite way to keep fit is. Entries close in 24 hours!
Hop on down to the @langhamsydney and enjoy their Hop on down to the @langhamsydney and enjoy their #EasterHighTea before the long weekend is over. Three tiers of Easter-themed sweets and savouries await, including tea / coffee, a mocktail for kids, and face painting. Such a delightful way to celebrate Easter with loved ones! Happy Easter! 🐣🐰
I love these huge, gentle creatures that are quiet I love these huge, gentle creatures that are quietly going extinct in the wild. On our recent trip to @visitcanberra we had the privilege of meeting the #giraffe herd at the @nationalzoo (don’t worry it was socially distant for humans and animals). Giraffes have the same number of vertebrae as humans, did you know? Each one can be over 10 inches long 😱 The National Zoo & Aquarium is a part of the accredited international breeding program for giraffes, which is sorely needed right now considering the over the last 30 years it is estimated that the total population of giraffes has plummeted by 40% due to habitat loss and human destruction. With only approximately 111,000 #giraffes remaining in the wild, these endangered giants need all the protection and help we can give them. #nationalzoo #nationalzooandaquarium #giraffesofinstagram
In a moment of madness we decided to drive three h In a moment of madness we decided to drive three hours to the @nationalgalleryaus to see #VanGogh’s #Sunflowers. Yes and the rest of the #bottacellitovangogh exhibition but basically this one perfect painting. And yes it was worth it. The painting literally glowed from across the room like it had a lightbulb inside it. I’ve never seen anything so luminous. Reproductions do not do it justice and I’m beyond grateful I had this opportunity to show the kid such a masterpiece in person. “I think the yellow represents happiness and hope,” she said, which is 💯, as the painting was created during one of Van Gogh’s rare periods of optimism. We could all use a bit of optimism right now, don’t you think? 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
I’ve finally finished my guide to a holiday on @ I’ve finally finished my guide to a holiday on @visitlordhoweisland (link in profile). Revisiting the trip this week while writing it up really hit home how incredibly special this little island is. Looking back at the photos and videos I really couldn’t believe that we were actually there experiencing such a stunning landscape and incredible wildlife. It was one of the best trips we’ve ever taken, and possibly the first time the three of us have ever agreed on this! Video taken on Ned’s Beach, where thousands of white-winged terns were nesting in the grass, raising their young. Every morning we would walk down to the beach and say good morning to the terns, watching as they fed their young. Can’t wait to go back one day. #lordhoweisland #lordhowe #lordhoweislandtourism
It’s been so empty in Sydney all year that’s i It’s been so empty in Sydney all year that’s it’s been quite a surreal experience to walk around the Harbour where there would usually be thousands of tourists milling and not see a single soul. The businesses in the CBD have been suffering with the double whammy of no tourists plus people working from home, so we have been dropping by frequently on weekends to support cafes and local businesses. With NSW currently doing so well I hope to see this area coming back to life again soon. #sydneyaustralia #sydneylife #sydneylifestyle
How’s the serenity? We’ve been exploring a lot How’s the serenity? We’ve been exploring a lot of Sydney since our Qld trip was cancelled. How lucky are we to have such beauty on our doorstep? This is the Jellybean Pool in Glenbrook, at the base of the Blue Mountains National Park. Just stunning. @bluemountainscitycouncil #bluemountains #bluemountainsaustralia #bluemountainsnationalpark #bluemountainsnsw
💫 G R A T E F U L 💫 To be isolated on our li 💫 G R A T E F U L 💫 To be isolated on our little-big island, to have a family who hasn’t been touched by COVID (touch wood), that school will be going back in person in a few weeks, to feel safe. Who would have thought that these would be things we would need to be thankful for in Australia in 2021? I’ve been feeling incredibly down lately about the repeated outbreaks in NSW shutting us in the state for the past 10 months, so some perspective has been needed today to shake off the ☁️ and do what I try to teach the child - to practice gratitude for what we have instead of focusing on what we don’t. Photo taken in the Royal National Park where we had a great walk despite being attacked by bull ants. 🐜 #royalnationalpark #audley #bushwalks #bushwalks👣 #nationalpark
I really have no words to describe 2020. While I’m grateful that we are safe here in Australia while so many others around the world are not, it’s been strange to not be able to leave the state let alone the country all year. As a real planner I’ve struggled with not being able to plan a thing past the day we are living. Zoom school nearly destroyed us all. We’ve missed our family living overseas and worry constantly about their health. I’ve had to learn how to live in the moment, and have worked on my patience endlessly. I am grateful we were able to see more of NSW, including areas we had never been before such as Cowra and the spectacular @visitlordhoweisland. I can’t believe it took a pandemic to bring us to this piece of paradise. The optimistic side of me hopes 2021 will be better once we kick this year to the curb, but if anything 2020 has taught me it’s that accepting the situation at hand and taking each day as it comes are the only way to ride this pandemic out. This too shall pass - one 😷 day at a time. #newyearseve #newyearseve2020 #goodbye2020

Magical @visitlordhoweisland is a special little s Magical @visitlordhoweisland is a special little spot that feels a lot more isolated from the rest of the world than the 2 hour flight from Sydney that it is. The World Heritage listed island is the world’s most southern choral reef and home to incredible species of birds, sea life and plants that are not found anywhere else on the planet. Only 400 visitors can stay on the island at any one time, so it felt like we had paradise pretty much to ourselves. More to come on this very special place. #lordhoweisland @visitlordhoweisland

Aaaaaaand just like that, live theatre is back! We Aaaaaaand just like that, live theatre is back! We saw @pippinaustralia today, our first live show since January at the @sydneylyrictheatre @thestarsydney. Pippin was created in 1972 by the legendary Bob Fosse and seeing his choreography brought to life by the talented cast brought a tear to my eye. It was just wonderful to have theatre conversations again and to be able to show my own tiny dancer an incredible example of one of the world’s most iconic choreographers, whose Broadway legacy still lives on. The arts are a mirror though which we view ourselves, and Pippin showed us the difficulties faced in looking for fulfillment. Do we opt for a simple life, or does happiness only come though achieving greatness? How do we find our path when we are feeling lost, and are faced with social pressures telling us what we “should” be doing with our lives? We highly enjoyed #Pippin (recommended for over 8 years of age but be warned there are some quite adult themes) - what a marvelous return to the theatre! #pippinthemusical #lyrictheatre #sydneytheatre #sydneymusical @ippublicity_

I’ve never noticed the blooms around Sydney as m I’ve never noticed the blooms around Sydney as much as I have this spring. Is the city always such a riot of colour? Is my head usually turned in search of more exotic destinations and I just haven’t noticed? I’ve had my senses awoken this year and spent the past few months in love with my home, awash with a rainbow of vibrant petals. The grand finale, the stunning jacaranda, is now taking its final bow. Thank you Sydney for the stunning botanical show. @rbgsydney #jacaranda #jacarandaseason #jacarandatree #rbgsydney @rock_your_baby

“Do you suppose she’s a wildflower?” 🌸 I’ve never seen as many flowers in NSW as I’ve seen these past few weeks. We found these little bursts of sunshine inside the #kuringaichasenationalpark, but really, flowers are blooming everywhere if you know where to look. The jacarandas are now starting to blossom and I can’t wait to see Sydney under its annual purple reign. 💜Ps the quote is a clue as to little miss’ book week costume she’s wearing tomorrow. Can you guess what character she is dressing as? #sydneyspring #wildflowers @kuringgai_council #kuringgainationalpark #kuringgai
A close encounter of the kookaburra-kind at the @p A close encounter of the kookaburra-kind at the @pskoalasanctuary. The sanctuary opened up three weeks ago with a state-of-the-art wildlife hospital and ICU for sick and injured koalas. There is no touching koalas here or chances for a selfie - just a whole lot of healing of koalas in the most incredible natural environment, complete with glamping tents for overnight stays. We learned so much about the koalas 🐨 and left better educated and even more committed to their conservation. Swipe 👉🏻 for more pics. #portstephenskoalas #koalas #portstephens #koalasanctuary
